David W. Colton was destined to become a builder.  As you can see, even at 3 years of age David already has a hammer in his hand.  David started as a carpenter apprenctice at the age of 14 while still in high school and has worked in the trade since that time.

David lived and worked in the Hudson River Valley, where he was born and raised, until 2004, when he came to California.  He spent three hears working in the Rancho Mirage/Palm Springs area until moving to Sonoma.  For David, Sonoma is very reminiscent of the Hudson Valley, minus the snow.  David now lives in Forestville, California on Firefly Ranch, a cut flower farm and perennials nursery he started in 2007 with Bill Wilson.  

David's skills in the construction arena can best be seen in the "Projects" section of this website.   David has retired as a General Contractor and now focuses on building garden structures.  Gazebos, wood frame green houses, pergolas, arbors, wooden gates and specialty decortive fences and outdoor rooms are David's passion.  From envisioning, to design and through construction, David's structures are an extension of the garden and home into nature.  Each structure is unique and original.  Make sure you view some of David's structures under the appropriate garden structures tab located on the main menu.
